I've said hello but have thought about introducing myself properly.
Born and bread in the "Black Country". Now before I start I need to say that this area is NOT birmingham ;D It's a bit like it but with a sense of humour Brought up to beleive in hard work and not afraid of gettings your hands dirty.
Found out about CB around 1978 ish whilst still at school. The first radio I ever saw in the flesh was a Colt 210 AM 40 channel. A friend's uncle had one in his mini van. Spent a great few evenings "on air" and so it began. A little later another uncle of the same friend had a Hy-gain V with was something else entirely. SSB was a mystery but still enjoyed myself.
2nd November 1981. CB was made legal in this country and I had left school and had a job. Brought my first CB on Christmas Eve 81. The Acadamy was a bad radio but I knew nothing and I was on the air.
I could not drive at this point so I had a antenna in the loft which was OK but soon upgraded to a outdoor antenna in the shape of a base loaded mobile antenna on a ground plane 100% legal.
I think I sold the Acadamy and brought a Midland 3001 which looked like a better radio but was still rubbish. I had used a AM version so I thought it was a good idea!
My next radio was a York JCB 863. Now your talking. A great radio (still have one). It also turned out that the guy who had the job of checking EVERY York before they went on sale lived a short distance away. Sorted.
My first "export" radio was a Major M588. Paid £60 for it in about 1982. Swaped it for a Stalker homebase. Not a good move.
I do hold a amateur radio Class B certificate. Lost interest when they started giving licecences away with Cornflakes. I'm not active on any amateur bands and have no thought of returning. My wife has a Class A licence. She too has no interest now.
Moveing on a lot of years I brought a Kernow Beta 1100 of e-bay for £12 including p and p, put it in the car, turned it on, had a flick about and turned it off again! UK40 had gone belly up.
From time to time myself and the other half needed a form of cheap comunication between our vechiels. Another UK40 radio was got. Has soon as you found a channel some moronic idiot would mess about. I thought about AM, my other half said SSB!
Brought a President and a replacement Major on the same day. My old interest was fired up, found a couple of forums and found myself making some great new friends.
I've used Thunderbird One, RT-17, CA-27 and now TM-71. Have no interest in UK40 (radio still in car) I'm 100% SSB and loving it again.
I've missed out a fair bit but that would be unfair to bore you any more.
I still love CB radio (SSB) but don't want it made legal. I also like motorbikes, loud music, real ale and dogs. I dislike people who mess me about and pretend to be something they are not.
Thats about it. 73.
